This is my first time with chicken and one resently got attacked by something I dont know what I heard it squak real loud and went out to check on it it was on some taller grass near the wood and me walking up scared whatever it was away! She was in my opinion badly hurt! There is a couple chuncks missing out her backside! And all her tail feathers are gonna its kinda hidden by her wing a little bit I disnt know what to do so I just went and put her in the coop and when I come to check on her the other chickens were pecking at the wound so brought her inside and have her in my 100 gallon fish tank with pine shavings on the bottom! I tried to clean it little bit that day by pouring some water over it but she just kept flapping around so I figured I just let her rest well today I decided to look at it again and it looks drak and scabbed but it smells aweful! So I pour some porxide over it put some neosporin on it! I really have no idea what to do! Shes eating and drinking fine!! Any advice would be amazing!!

The wounds need to be cleaned so fold a towel in to thirds so it is half as wide as she is long and wrap it around her this will keep her from flapping and kicking them wash her wounds and clean very well getting all for-en matter out ....

Have questions ask .......

Okay thank you I will try that tomorrow! Im kinda nervous about even touching it ive never dealt with any wounds before except a few scrapes that my son has got! But im really gonna try and take care of it the best I can!

If the wound stinks, she obviously has an infection and probably needs an antibiotic started. Please post in "emergencies, diseases, injuries, cures," thread. With a scab present you won't be able to clean out the wound. Peroxide can burn healthy skin as well as the diseased parts. It's better to flush with a saline solution and then apply Neosporin (NO Caine in product).

Chickens will attack sores, wounds, anything looking red etc to the point they can even kill the poor bird. She must be away from them till healed - keep flies off of her, so no maggots hatching in her wound. You can also put a product called "Bluekote " on her wounds to cover up the redness.

Welcome to BYC!! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

X2 on the link provided by Two Crows. Sending prayers that she heals!
