Hi, my ameraucana got attacked by something and has a big tear in her skin right above her leg. I'm wondering what I should do? I have washed it off and she is in a rubbermaid in my room. Any tips or comments would be appreciated.

Irrigate the wound with peroxide and water or betadine and water. Sounds like you did that. Next, cut away feathers that are covering/ sticking into the wound(but not wing feathers). Do not cut the blood part of the feathers if you can avoid it. Pack wound with triple antibiotic. Keep her caged, away from other birds/pets. Quiet room, dimly lit where she can relax. Keep her in, clean and wound packed until well scabbed. After that, let wound dry. You or she may debride it. This is ok. Wash petroleum of of feathers. Use honey on wound if it still looks too raw. Let wound dry again. Use something like alushield if wound is easily seen and blu kote over that. Return to flock.
