Long story short

These eggs weren't in consistent temps/humidity until lockdown when I popped them in the incubator

Hatch day came and went they're on day 24 and this baby tried so hard pipping since day 19-20 but just couldn't get through it's shell only slight cracks at random spots on her egg and from all the research I did I decided yesterday to candle and there was absolutely no air sac n faint cheeps so I'm not sure how long she was in that state and decided to try chip away one of her cracks to make a breathe hole n a huge chunk of egg came off I was mortified

I used petroleum jelly to moisten n put her egg back on n put her back in the incubator but this is her tday!

She's cheeping a lot stronger now but she's shrink wrapping and I'm prepared to help her further but need advice!

Are her veins still too aparant to help?

Should I leave her longer?

Should I break thru her membrane a bit more?

Sorry first time assist and iv read the articles on assisted help hence why I had the confidence to try chip a piece away as I felt it necessary at the time!

Thankyou!

Edit to add

Iv peeled back someofthe driest membrane to fold over the outside of the shell n popped her back in the incubator il be patient n wait n see how she goes after time doing that

I don't know the answer. But I'm hoping that me posting and liking moves you back to the top so someone with knowledge of this can find you. My fingers are crossed for your little.

Thankyou so much!!

She was trying and trying to break free but she just couldn't she was shrink wrapped So I carefully peeled back the dry membrane n chipped some egg away she was trying to break up so much she cut her leg on the shell but she's out!! 🥹🥹

Will her cut on her leg be OK do you think it'll just dry? Its not bleeding out that I can see but there's one other egg that's just pipping now that's left to go

This is what I found:

There is some debate on what to do if a piece of the umbilical cord is still attached to your chick. Generally, this isn't a sign there's something wrong with the chick. Many experts advise leaving it alone. However, it's possible your chick will be at a higher risk for developing an infection

Pitesky adds that not only should you leave it alone and wait for it to fall off, you should never pull it. “If you pull on the umbilical cord, you could pull the intestines out, causing a hernia,” he says. “If you try to push the intestines back in, you could cause strangulation of the intestinal loop and kill the chick.”

Thankyou so much guys!!

I haven't touched it I'm just watching her drag her shell around she's so active!

Omg as I was writing this she got it cawt and it just broke off 😳

I can't see yet if there looks like any damage

The egg shell it was attached to or the umbilical cord attached to her belly? If it was just the shell that detached then she's probably fine.
