So, I have a chick that has gotten about a quarter of the way unzipped but hasn't made progress in 3 hours and the chirps are getting less and less. Do I help? Is this normal or is my chick in distress!

Yes, normal! They all take a different amount of time to get out. I had one who unzipped a little, I watched it for 12 hrs and nothing....I went to sleep for 2hrs and when I woke up it was totally out.

At this point, I'd take it out and chip off some shell. Chicks normally take much less than three hours to zip, more like 30 minutes to one hour, maybe two (unusual if it is healthy in my experience). It could be shrink wrapped. Be careful not to rip the membrane underneath the shell unless it's stuck to the chick. I doubt you'll have much of a problem with bleeding because the chick should've absorbed most of the remaining blood/yolk by now, but still be careful.

Let us know how it goes! How many have you set?
