Ok then just wrap her in a towel and put her in a box or a crate to let her know you're there for her, with those injuries she may not last too long. Is there anyone you can call to help you? I'm so terribly sorry!

You don't have an ax? Or a butcher knife? I usually lay their neck across a log, move the feathers aside and wack as hard as I can. It really hurts to watch, but I've found that it is the quickest way to end a bird's suffering.

Blood and feathers can obscure a lot but it does look like half of her face has been ripped off. It is not an envious position to have to be the one to end a pet's life, but it is our duty as owners to do so when the situation calls for it. I prefer a shotgun in situations like these so there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that it is instant. If you have nothing else, get your sharpest knife/chopper, comfort her, say goodbye, grab that neck and behead her as quick as possible. Do not be squeamish as it will only prolong the pain.

And this could just as easily happened to any one of us. Our chickens are prey animals. It's easy for me to say that you shouldn't blame yourself - you shouldn't as that is how nature works - but I'm not in your shoes. I really am sorry this happened to you.

well do you have a recommendation for how to catch him? ive had this trap set for weeks since our last attack and nothing.

The only thing you can really do is make sure absolutely that predators can't get into your coop/run. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Killing one raccoon doesn't magically protect your flock from raccoons, and where there's one, there will be others.

I would absolutely use her (put out of misery body) to attempt to bait the coon. It would be emotionally difficult for me to do so, but I would be doing it from the perspective of flock preservation. In addition to the flock, I personally have a dog, ducks, soon to have pregnant goats, and three human children to consider the safety of. That raccoon would make a nice hat.

OMG! Poor thing! You should probably take her in the house, clean the wounds with water and a cloth. Make sure you can clean it as well as you can to get all the germs and debris out. After bandage up the wounds and hope for the best. You should probably keep her in the house to keep and eye on her. Good Luck!
