This chick hatched yesterday and I can’t decide if it’s a prolapse or the yolk sack that hasn’t absorbed. Can anyone please help! He’s wondering around fine and standing up— I have not put him in with other chicks. Is he going to die? Anything I can do to help him? The little sack thing is also bleeding a tiny bit. Sorry I’m advance for the disgusting pictures!

Yolk sack. Such a chick has little chance at survival. I would euthanize the chick. If you decide to try, keep the chick in a humid, sterilized environment. If it just hatched, return it to the incubator for 24 hours and hope for the best. There have been a couple times in the last 50 years that a chick, like yours, did fully absorb the sac. Good luck.

Ok, I think it’s getting worst. Looks like the yolk sack has broken. I’ve taken him out of the tea cup and just places paper towels down in the incubator.

He has a very high risk of infection
I don’t even know how to do that! Do you have a certain way you recommend?
i know this sounds quite graphic, but my dad usually rings their necks.. it’s quick and gets the job done but you have to do it right.. if you can’t handle that I’d see if you can get someone else to do that for you or find another way to euthanise her

Oh god, ok.. I’ll probably wait until my husband gets home in an hour and let him do it. I’ve never killed any animal before & I’m too emotionally invested in him now to do it myself!

I get it.. I’m an animal lover myself and also get emotionally attached.. do you have other babies as well?

:hugsI cannot imagine what you must be going through right now and that breaks my heart for that little guy. I hope that this baby doesn’t suffer and I am praying for you.
