Help, prolapse? something else?

One of my moms birds has an issue, a few days ago she had a small protrusion that she thought was a prolapse.

The tissue would not go back in, she used some medications on it, soaked it, the chicken stayed in the house for a few days, was eating fine, pooping fine, drinking water. Mom put her back out with the flock as the protrusion was less red, less veiny and decreasing in size.

Today it seems to have gotten a 'skin' or 'crust' on it? It doesn't seem like the lump has gone down since it initially has gone down. I thought it went away, or else I would have made an account and posted sooner. The crust seems like it's removable if I tried, it doesn't appear to be blocking her vent.

My mom took a photo when it was first discovered and after she cleaned it- but before the swelling went down and before soaking

and this is today... Sammie is 3 years old, never had any issues of anything before (besides being the dullest knife in the drawer...) I really thought this prolapse type issue had gone away when mom said the swelling went down, I had no idea... please help

Daily soaks in a warm epsom salts bath may help. I would also apply some oil to the crusty stuff to help loosen it. Someone on another thread found that vegetable oil seemed to work on getting urates loose.

I don't really see prolapsed tissue hanging out, but sometimes a vent can be damage and it doesn't quite function as well as it once did, this leads to leakage.

If the hen is active/eating/drinking and pooping, that's a good thing. Hopefully with some extra attention, she'll heal up o.k.

Is she pooping without problems? Make sure to keep the pink tissue moist with oil or ointment, so that it doesn’t dry out.
