HELP! Prolaspe vent with an egg?

good luck, keep us posted. With our hen, it just fell off in less than a week. She prolapsed twice - but now is in her own coop with some other special needs chickens. I think lack of calcium was the issue since she now has access 23/7 without bully hens around. Good luck. We used a spray bottle to keep her rear clean rather than bathing her every day.

Now she gives us an egg a day, no problems! Happy hen!

We extracted the egg, but could not suture the oviduct. Way too hard. Lucy is eating, but the vent will not go back in. I tried to wash her up, but it was really difficult and there were some blood clots. Her spirits are up. We let her out of the small cage for about 15 minutes to free range. She loved it. At one point though, she fell on her side, still pecking at the grass, layed down for a moment then got up. Wierd... I did spray Veteracyn, an antibiotic spray, on it. Other than the organ still hanging out, she is acting normal. Not sure if this will cure it. I'm not sure if she's going to survive or not.

Just keep her in the dark for most of the day so she doesn't produce another egg, and it should go back in in a week or so. Chickens are amazing at healing.

She is acting ok, But I think the tissue is dying. She is eating and drinking very little. She really perks up when I go into the garage.

Honestly, I wondered how our hen could live with such a fleshy wound outside her body, but one morning it was all back inside and she looked fine. Please keep her in the dark for at least another week beyond when she looks normal. Her insides are probably still healing. I wonder if one reason ours prolapsed again was because we turned her out too soon. We actually kept her inside a month after the incident. She remained in good cheer and had a healthy appetite the entire time.

My worries, is that the tissue is looking dry even though I have been trying to keep it moist. She's only eating and drinking very little. She is in the dark in one of those medium size dog cages. I let her out to walk around the garage for a bit which she really enjoys. I'm just worried that the tissue is dying.

Is the tissue outside her vent? If so, it will heal, and the whole mess will look normal again. Can you post a picture?

Not to gross you out, but here is our hen before she recovered. Her vent was just above this mess. When it fell off, a couple of days later, the rest of the fleshy part went back in. We kept it clean by using a spray bottle with warm water.

Yes, that does look like what Lucy started with. I had to have my friend take care of her through Saturday because I went out of town. She told me that the tissue has gone down to grape size. I was so hapy to hear that!

So, the dead tissue will drop off? If that is the case, I think Lucy will have a chance. Her spirits seem very good. She's eating and drinking more and wants to get out of her cage.
