is coming out of her vent..as well as possibly some very pale yellow yoke. What should I do? I already soaker her in a warm water bath and rubbed mineral oil around her vent. I don't feel anything hard in her abdomen like an egg.

She is 22 weeks old and has been laying everyday for the last two weeks. She laid from the roost the the night before last and hasn't laid today.

Give her a light for warmth, the puffed up feathers is generally an indicator they are chilled. Dissolve a 325mg aspirin in a gallon of water, that should knock temp down if its up.

Is she lighter than she should be?

If she continues like this then put her on antibiotics.

If you think that its a ruptured egg you can put her on PennG, three injections over the next three days. I can't remember the dose for the life of me at the moment, but .10 cc per pound should be adequate. I'll look in the man time to verify. Giving a 1/2 cc probably won't hurt her.

After her warm water bath I put her back in the run to see how she behaved. After about 10 minutes she laid a good size soft shell broken egg. The shell looked like a popped rubber balloon. I put her up in the coop by herself and she rested in her nest box for another 30 minutes then laid just an intact yoke. No shell, no white. Once that happened she bounced back and was back to normal behavior.

Thanks to all I've read on BYC I felt less nervous taking care of her. I knew the warm water bath and abdomen rub helped in egg bound situations which I think is what this kinda was. I'm so glad she is feeling better!!

The people and advice on BYC are tremendous!
