80 degrees isn't that hot for Quail. I live in Florida where its almost 100 degrees each day. I own Quail. When the Quail get to hot they pant. Just like dogs. They need access to water. Doesn't need to be ice cold. Just water. Quail can go without water for a certain amount of hours. Even when it is hot but they wont last for 8 hours. I have a feeling your Quail didn't have a heat stroke. She probably has something wrong egg wise. You said she hasn't laid yet so maybe the egg is stuck or she's sick.Low 80s. I can put something cold next to it. I'm beginning to suspect egg-binding. I'm pretty sure she's a young female, she hasn't started laying yet, and she's at the age where she can begin laying at any time. Dehydration also causes egg-binding, and she's all scrunched up and can't walk. She also does this action where she breathes open-mouthed intermittently almost like she's having a contraction.
