Help!! Random out of chick food!!

Hi I ran out of chicken starter, I thought I had another bag but was mistaken. All the feed stores are closed till Tuesday morning because of the long weekend any suggestions? I have some rolled oats I could grind up a bit and I think I could maybe get some bird food recipes from the super market tomorrow we also have some almonds and walnuts in the house some dried lentils,peas,chick peas any help would be great thanks.

I haven't tried this myself, but a quick search on the internet came up with this - http://tlc.howstuffworks.com/home/organic-chicken-feed-cheap.htm. I think some of the elements might be just as difficult to find.

Also have no experience. I did a google search and a lot pops up but don't know if anything is what you have. Would Walmart have something in the pet section that would suffice? Or a neighbor/friend?

How old are the chickens?

I have been using my 10 week old flock as a garbage disposal lately. They have eaten, enjoyed, and survived on everything from romaine lettuce and cabbage, to pork ribs and apples. It's like an exciting treat to them. If worst comes to worst, you can feed them practically anything. Use google for the [tiny] list of things that they can't eat.

I'm confused on that as well. Memorial Day is next week, not this week. But other than that, just find some somewhat healthy food and give them that until you get chick feed, hopefully tomorrow.

I am in the same situation. I bought some bird feed, (parakeet i think ), form wal-mart and ground it some in a blender. Hope it works till morning !
