I agree. It doesn't take a professional to take a quality photo...just someone who pays attention to the details and makes sure the photo is actually in focus. It amazed me to see how many that were submitted that were out of focus. I understand keeping an out of focus picture sometimes because it conveys a feeling to the owner but not to submit it for publication. No one else has that warm fuzzy special feeling connected to the photo...we just see an out of focus picture of a chicken.

I have a nice camera, probably take thousands of shots a year. I get compliments on some of my photos but never have made one red cent; guess that makes me an amateur photographer. A good photo is in focus, framed and lighted well, and interesting to the viewer. Would you rather buy a calendar of average snapshots, or photos that make you go 'oooh, ahhhh'?
