Help! REALLY, REALLY confused!

jojo@rolling acres farm :

Hi all,

I remember several years ago there was an article in Bird Talk or something similar about A strain of Male Pearled cockatiels that upon maturity were not losing their pearls. Does anyone remember this??? That little guy sure looks like a male.

I remember reading in Bird Talk about some strains of Pearls in which males keep "hints" of their markings, and some that hold on to them beyond six months, but in researching this answer to be sure my answers were tight, I checked Linda Rubin's site for info, and there was no mention of there being adult male pearls who are as pearled as the one in the picture in this thread.

I think you think this one looks like a male because of the yellow face. However, most pearl females have yellow faces.

Good to know I'm not losing my mind. I've had male pearls that have retained shadows of pearls on their wings. But the image (maybe there was a picture - I can't be certain) in Bird Talk was more pearled than any of the males that I've ever had or had seen. It may have just taken those strains a few extra moults to obtain the grey feathers overall.

I'm much further out of the loop than I used to be on color mutations and Cockatiel genetics sure seem more complicated than they once were. The intro of the White Faced really seemed to make it more complicated. Maybe I just don't have the desire to understand it like I once did. Plus, I think the Orange cheeks are really cute. How awesome would it be to get an Orange Cockatiel?!!!

That little FEMALE is sure cute! She sits on a perch like a female and has more of a rounded body style - that's for sure. She also looks very sweet.

That's a cool idea. Or maybe yellow and orange pied?
