My son got purple permenant marker on his new sweat suit yesterday. Any one have any household hints to get it out. I dont have any nail polish remover or Oxy Clean. Im not sure what to do. Its grey so I dont want to bleach it.

Try flushing the stain through with rubbing alcohol or vodka. Don't rub or soak, just pour a thin thin stream *through* the stain and out the other side of the fabric, you know? It will not remove the stain totally but will get enough out IME that a light bleach dose in the washload will do the rest.

Or you can always tack an applique over the spot

Good luck,

i tried the hairspray this morning and it did get some of it out. I sprayed it again before we left for dinner and will wash it again soon. Cross your fingers.

Hi new here and haven't introduced myself yet ...
I have used the liquid air fresheners, the bottles that you plug into the warming device that you plug into the wall. I was trying to get old permanent sharpie marker marks off an old white (yellowed) computer case and stumbled onto it by trying anything around the house, no matter how absurd. It worked perfectly. I have never tried it on clothes. But the computer case was unmarked again and it sure smelled good!
If you haven't gotten the stain out, don't dry the cloths in the dryer or in the hot sun since that will heat set the stain for good.

I did the hairspray thing 3 times because I had remembered hearing that before, it did lighten it but its still there. I gave up.

It's usually the alcohol in the hairspray that is taking out the stain. You may have to try it several times, or try some bleach in it to keep lightening it. (or do like Pat suggested & find an applique like a soccer ball, basketball, football, fish, etc. ... something guy-ish and scatter some randomly over the item.)
