Help! Rooster collar

Hello there, and welcome to Backyard Chickens! I am quite glad you decided to join the flock, and please make yourself at home here! Enjoy BYC! :frow

I also made my own, and I did notice Zeb reduced both his volume and frequency of crowing... but he didn't seem happy about it. Eventually I took it off and now her crows to his heart's content, and my neighbors don't mind at all. We live right behind a freeway and the road noise from that is louder than his crowing. If you have a good relationship with your neighbors (and maybe ply them with some extra eggs ;P) then they won't give a toss, and if no one reports you, then the city doesn't give a toss either.

There's a lot of great peeps here! Feel free to ask lots of questions. But most of all, make yourself at home. I'm so glad you decided to join the BYC family. I look forward to seeing you around the run. The crow collar didn't work on my boys. One tore off his spur and almost bled out trying to get it off. Good luck with your boy.

We used one on our micro Serama and it didn't really work. From what I've read some roosters Will crow even if it kills them. I don't know if that was the case for us and I don't want to scare you or deter you from trying it but we did find a rooster dead a few days ago. He did have a collar on for about a month before hand that we did the night before and my has been said he came out of their coop chasing the girls around like normal and when I went out about three hours later to give them treats he was laying on his back. Some people have told me it was the collard which makes me feel awful and other have said it probably a heart attack

. Either way next time if I get stuck with the roo I think I may try something else other than a collar. Possibly like making him a run in the garage not letting him out till after nine when most people have gone to work or are already awake. If he crows later in the day I'm not as concerned,i'm crossing my fingers that people would only complain if it was waking them up.
