My 9 month old barred rock rooster has been acting fine, eating good, and drinking water but has started having bloody diarrhea two days ago. His rear end looks like he has vent fleet also. I soaked him in epsom salt water yesterday and trimmed feathers that were matted in feces. I also started corid in the water. Am I on the right path and how long until he starts to recover?

Okay, then you could have active coccidia there. How is his behavior? If he's lethargic, he maybe could use a sulfa antibiotic with the Corid.

Most of the time, Corid will clear up the bloody poop as it decreases the coccidia activity in the intestines. But if the bloody poop persists, it could mean infection has taken hold in the inflamed intestines. It's called enteritis and can be fatal.

You can get pigeon sulfa from pigeon supply shops or pet stores if you are in a city. Or it can be bought online.

The Corid should cause improvement within the first 24 to 36 hours. If he gets worse instead, get him on sulfa.

He has been acting normal except for making a squeaking/straining noise when he poops. That and the blood in his stool are the only two things i have to go off of. I took a fecal float to my dogs vet a few mins ago and they said they didn’t see any cocci but that doesn’t mean it’s not there. The vet said it’s hard to catch sometimes. Idk how much of that is true but that’s what she told me. Plus idk if the rooster having 2 days worth of corid treatment would make the test inaccurate. I just want to figure out what’s wrong with him.

Corid treatment might lower the coccidia count enough where it wouldn't show significant amounts in a fecal float, so the results wouldn't be very reliable. It's safest to continue to treatment, and watch his behavior.

Okay I will. Thank you so much!

When you say I should see improvement so you mean improvement in the blood or improvement in the diarrhea? Today he is still eating, drinking and acting fine except for him straining to poop and having diarrhea. I ordered the sulfa but it won’t be here until wend of next week. I’m sure I can find it local if I need it now though.
