Help - Rooster with prolapsed vent?

If he has an impacted crop, no, pumpkin isn't what he should have right now. Oil is the best thing to get birds freed up. Do you have a neighbor that might have coconut oil?

I did. It is not very full feeling, and not super hard but more hard than not I guess - not that mushy crunchy that I have felt on my hens in the past. I am not sure what it is supposed to feel like. :-(

It could be impacted. It doesn't take much, a hard mass as small as a walnut can stop up a chicken crop. Did you try to locate some coconut oil? It really is the easiest to get down. Your rooster needs about a tablespoon full all together to do any good.

And massage the crop gently and maybe the mass will break up.

I don't really have any neighbors, kind of out in the middle of nowhere. I did give him some mineral oil but not a whole tablespoon. I can probably mix it with food in the morning, he was not interested in any water tonight as it is pretty late. I can get some coconut oil tomorrow at the store if you think that is better than mineral oil.

Does yogurt help with this condition as well? I did give him some earlier today as mentioned.

I do have crisco. I could probably get some in him, although it would probably work better mixed with food in the morning. I can try to give him some tonight- do I just scrape a bit into his open beak?

Update: He did not eat the feed laced with Crisco this morning. However when I let him out he immediately went and mated with two of the girls. He was acting completely normal all day, holding his tail feathers high. I saw him mate several other times through the day. I gave them a suet block as a treat which he ate quite a bit from, hoping it would get some oils into him. When I checked on his butt this evening after roosting, he was bleeding quite a bit still from his vent, and it was freezing on him. I brought him in and soaked him again. I massaged his crop while doing so, it did not seem very hard but not very full either. I sprayed some aloe on his vent, which is still prolapsed. I gave him some coconut oil but there was no way I could give him a whole tablespoon as it was melting in the bathroom with the heater on. I gave him probably 1/2 tsp - 3/4 tsp. I will keep him in tonight and let him out in the morning. I will be at work all day so I won't really know how he is doing until after he roosts. The bleeding is now what is really concerning me. I as surprised his vent was still prolapsed since he was all happy mating today.

Any ideas as to what may be causing the bleeding?

A teapoonful of either mineral oil or coconut oil is a good dose. It can be combined with other things, such as yogurt or wet feed. A drop or two at a time will also work.
