...Oh I am so sorry about your hen! It's a good thing she has someone like you to look after her. And believe me, she's looking at you like someone who saved her - you are not a bad momma...

And I never seen anything like that before from a roo'. Does this happen often? Sorry to sound like a big dummy but when I first started reading I thought it was done from a predator.

Hugs to you and your lil' Rosebud!

Blessings,
TJ

TJ thanks.... Rosebud is the worst one... I do have a couple others but they are not this bad at all.... all the boys in the house call her a ummm... nymph... Says if she would quit putting out... oh well... they are her favorite and this is the first time this has happened... she was not this bad a couple days ago... but I picked her up today and said I had enough... and you know the rest... the more I got to looking the more I freaked.... I think I answered your question somewhere in here.

Thanks for all the hugs all.... Rosebud and I sure did need them!!!!

as for the predator... as far as Im concerned a roo is a predator at times!!!!

He may have meant trim the ends of the spurs off rather than twisting them off, which is just as good. You'll have to be careful though, because if you cut too far in, you'll cause them to bleed. Think of it like trimming your dog's or cat's claws...the quick will be in the center.

Would you be able to super-glue the gash closed? My friend is a dog & cat vet and she uses it all the time for surgery. I know what the roo is doing to the hen, but is he pulling her feathers or "rubbing" them off?

Blisschick... yah I think that is what he is talking about.

he knows a little more about it than me since he grew up doing things like that at his uncles farm.

homecatmom - Im not sure... that is why I am asking for advice... right now I am just washing it out and putting ointment on it.

QUESTION: Is peroxide okay... or would sailene solution be better???? I want to go out and clean her again before I go to bed just to make sure she is clean.

by the way, homecatmom... Im not sure if what they are doing to her, I looks as if they are pulled out though. I have no clue... honestly I think I know which roo it is and quite honestly I dont like him that much anyways.... he may not have a home for much longer if he keeps his issues up.

I think it would be nice for Rosebud and the others if you could take the roo out of there, if you dont like him, there is nothing standing in your way!
Ive had naughty roos whom i ended up wanting to cull but found new homes instead.
If you click with a roo, you are lucky and have a great pet and useful addition to your coop.
However if you dont get along with a roo, turf him and get him a new home. Or make roo soup!!
Good luck, more hugs to both of you!XX
