We have had these 5 chickens for 4 years and never had this problem. We cracked open some eggs today and one was green and one was black! Both smelled awful and we had to toss the entire bowl. We did a float test and baked 12 seemingly good eggs at 350 for 10 minutes and they did not puff up like usual and developed an odd film so we tossed then out. We started cracking eggs and sniffing shells and they smelled like dead fish! What is going on?

Sounds like a bacterial infection.

Or the shells are somehow allowing bacteria to enter the egg and turn it before they are collected.

Sorry I can't be of more help. :/

How long ago were the eggs layed? There can be some bacteria that will affect eggs, such as pseudomonas and staphylococus that can make eggs black or green inside, but if the eggs were layed weeks ago and not refrigerated during hot weather, it could be they were just spoiled.

We had about 2 weeks worth, I'd say. But they always collect daily and are rinsed and placed in the fridge If you wanna step inside, pay admission at the door...
