HELP!! Rough Rooster Hurt Hen! What To Do!!! *graphic-ish photos*

With all that's happened, the poor girl might be in shock. Put her in a dark, very quick place. Provide a heat lamp for warmth and let the poor girl rest. I hope she is back to her old self soon. I'm thinking that the full bath might have been a bit too much for her with everything else. Keep her warm...it will also help her dry better and see how she is in the morning. The most important things is to keep her quiet, calm and warm.

Good luck and keep us posted!!!

we didnt give her a full bath we just put some epsom salt water in a quart jar and poured it over her. and when we were taking her out and first taking pictures she was flapping her wings and acting fine even when we were giving her a bath she was acting normal. bawking quite a bit when we put her in the box though, i think she was just lonely then.

EDIT: Oh and she didnt have food or water for an half of an hour because we didnt have a feeder (we ran to the feed store to go get one) but we had just given all the chickens some mash so she was pretty full. but just in case i gave her some meal worms to hold her over. not alot but enough for a treat

we put her on a towel in her box with a heat lamp above. them put a blanket over a good part of the box (some uncovered for ventilation) then put some wire mesh stuff over it to keep the two curious cat/kitten out. sound good? what tempature should i keep the inside of the box at? i dont want her to overheat.

Hi, I've dealt with this injury twice in the last three years. If you want to sew the wound shut, I can tell you how to do it.
First, get a simple sewing needle and some white sewing thread. Also an old dark colored sock and some newspaper and an old towel or t-shirt.
Get some betadine, and an eye dropper.
1. wrap the chicken up gently in the T-shirt and lay her in your lap or a work surface on some newspaper.
2. put the sock over the chickens head, make a small hole in it for her beak so that she can breath.
3. using an eye dropper, put several droppers full of betadine inside and outside the wound and under the loose skin.
Saturate the area thouroughly.
4. Using a threaded needle, with a knot at the end, begin to sew the wound shut making 1/4 inch stiches. The birds usually are fairly quiet during this process. The dark sock will "put her to sleep" while you work. Continue to sew the wound shut and be sure to make a knot on the beginning and the end of the first and last suture.
5. After you are finished, clip off the threaded needle and put another dropper full of betadine on the wound.
6. If you can, get some Penicillin G. Procaine and give her a dose to help fight off the infection.
Keep her in a dark room for a couple of hours and let the shock wear off a bit.
Offer her some Jello-water three Tbs. of Jello with a dash of table salt. They love strawberry or raspberry flavored (Not Sugar Free.
She should start perking up after a few hours. Keep her separate from the rest of the flock until she heals completely.
I hope this helps. I have done this several times for different injuries over the years.

Agree with what everyone has said. She's likely pretty stressed out, and might just be hunkered down and in low gear because of the shock of the would and change of environment. My EE experienced a similar wound (raw muscle exposed) some time ago, and I had her recover in the bath tub. Quite the mess after two weeks, another story. I flushed the area a few times a day with diluted iodine/betadine (the color of weak tea) and epsom salts.

I didn't close the wound (others choose to), because I couldn't be sure I could clean it efficiently enough. Some even use super glue with success. I found that her skin sealed over within 24 hours, albeit very thin. As she moved, it would adjust and get thicker. As she continued to recover, I sprayed Vetericyn a few times per day and gave her yogurt.

She recovered fine. My only mistake was reintroducing her to the coop a little too soon. They pecked at the little scab for a bit.

Thanks for all the help guys. Poor Tahchee didnt make it over night. I think the wound was more than a day old and we didnt catch it in time and it got infected.

I'm sorry she didn't make it. You did a great job trying to save her and you made her last hours more comfortable.
