Hatcheries are not known for having high quality stock. I agree a necropsy would answer the question of cause of death.

I feed my chickens a "treat" every day that is just their feed, mixed with water so it's an oatmeal-like consistency. They love it! Since it's their regular feed, I'm not depriving them of any nutrients.

In the summer, I can make it with cold water, for a cool treat. In the winter, I can make it with warm water for a warm treat. Sometimes I sprinkle other things on, or mix them in, like a few berries, some leftover greens, or veggie scraps.

They come running when they see the treat dish in my hands.

Yes! They love a treat! Mealworms are a favorite!
