HELP, scalped quail

Hes still going. Has pooped, yah. Fed him the poly aid, perks him up and then he goes to sleep. Swelling easing a bit.

Seperated his attacker out after I saw how rough he was with the hens. He might be the first freezer bird. I have other less aggressive birds I like more.

I had a male quail worse then that. The hens tore him up. His eyes were swelled shut. I dipped his beak in water so he new where it was so he could drink. He never ate for about 5 days then the swelling went down. I used wet warm towel to moisten eyes to clean them and help him open them. And his scalp was completely healed, in a month. Now you can't even tell. What happened 3 months later. Dave

Wow! Viscious buggers.
Swelling definately shrinking. Hes drinking and eating and pooping, seemed happy to see me. Unlike evil roo who hurled abuse from solitary confinement..

Hes moving around , I really cant believe it, after all those baby birds I tucked in the airing cupboard as a child. (Followed by baby bird funerals the next day)
Cant thank you all enough for just being there for starters.. grateful.

Thanks so much

So as an ending to this tale ...
This quail we called Arnie healed up and looked like he had a monks hair cut. He was very loud and chatty, escaped and is living inder the pear tree in , my vege garden.

Not sure for how long ... but I am astounded at his resiliance . Thanks again for your support :)

know im very late to this post - this happened to one of my roos, and one of my girlies. Had no idea what to do so just kept them seperate and salt watered the wound regularly.
I hate it when this happens, I have three 3 week olds at the mo, i hope they are girls cos i hate the viciousness of the roos towards eachother. They will literally not stop - i know its nature, but i dont like it at all

Glad your story was a success :)

I have come across this before. All I did was isolate the injured bird in a 24" x 36" run with shelter at one end, inside the aviary so all the other birds can see it. It took about 2 weeks but they all healed. If the bird is poorly from it's ordeal keep it in the warm for a couple of days. Providing it's a new wound, it should be cool. The other birds will target the red, if you don't separate.
