Um, almost right. Males do end up lighter, but that's because they get TWO barring genes. (Twice as many genes = more white = lighter color.)

Male chickens get a matched pair of sex chromosomes, female chickens get a mis-matched set (backwards of the way people are.)

I am watching this thread with interest, because OP is tracking individual chicks--including order of hatching. Years ago, I hatched sexlink chicks and noticed that most of the females hatched first, then a few of each, then a bunch of males. So I have a theory that females tend to hatch earlier, and I'm interested anytime someone's chicks might support or refute that theory of mine.

that’s really interesting as both my hatches have had what we think are the girls hatch first!Their only 3weeks and a few days old so will need to wait and see.

Really appreciate these week by week updates. Going to be very helpful for folks - like me! - who weren't sure about the sex of their chicks.

Agree with everyone else - Gozilla's waddles are insane! Hoping for you on Piri Piri; I feel like that one is still a coin flip.

So far, this batch of chicks does not support my theory at all. Two males hatched first, then a female, and the last to hatch is still unknown. :) But it's fun to see how they grow up anyway!

He's not called godzilla for nothing :lau you should've seen how he hatched, he flung the egg shell across the incubator with the force and then ran around like a T-rex. Most confident, but also the most friendly.

Will try and keep posting the photos :thumbsup really appreciate all the help and advice💛
