Hey yall, I figured this forum is my best bet at determining the sex of my chick or at least having a good idea :)

Im still learning by the way!

Okay so my chick should be exactly 6weeks today or very close to that, and she? has gone through some very confusing plumage changes. I’ve read that Silver Duckwings are sometimes considered auto sexing and I’ve also read that it will be a while until they get their final coloring.

I initially was sure she was a female when her chipmunk pattern was replaced by the slightly speckled, sandy-grey feathers but now I’m learning that her black chest means she’s a male!

I would be very grateful if anyone could offer insight on her gender or if anyone could correct me on when I will be able to accurately tell. You guys are the best!

My goodness she is super cute! My opinion is she is a she. But I'm also new, so let others weigh in.

Lol yeah I rehomed 3 males this past weekend. They weren't bad birds, I just had too many boys in the coop and with everyone growing up, I wanted to rehome before fighting began.

Her breast looks more barred than black to me and I'm not seeing a large comb or wattles. I'll say pullet because in my limited experience with bantams the males seem to show themselves fairly early.
Here's a link to a good image of the different coloring for a hen and rooster of that breed. https://hoovershatchery.com/Silver-Duckwing-Old-English-Bantam

Smart. If only they could all get along! Did you have difficulty finding them new homes? I’m scared to find out how many of my new eggs are roosters 😬

I got very lucky and found them a home within about 3 days. They all went together (it was actually 4, I sold my Porcelain d'Uccles as a m/f pair because they are very bonded). They went to a huge country farm with a large bantam flock, turkeys, geese, ducks, pheasants, and several other livestock animals like mini horses and cattle.

Ahh okay, thank you! The comparison of them together makes them look like two different breeds haha. Yeah she doesn’t have any wattles that I can see at least and her comb is still pretty small and pink-ish. It’s honestly pretty fascinating how much of a change they can go through from hatchling to adult!

Wow that’s the best case scenario for a couple extra roosters! I’m glad to hear it worked out well for you and Im sure they’re living it up lol
