Help! Sexing?

Hi all,

I am going to be getting black Austrulorp chicks in a few weeks and want to know how to tell if they are male of female. So, I was wondering if there is any easy way to tell. I want ONLY females! No roosters for me!

Usually you can't tell until they are about 6 weeks when males start getting a pink comb.

No, there is not an easy way.
Even profession chick sexers at the hatcheries will only claim 90% accuracy.
Where are you getting them from and how old will they be?

Australorps must be vent sexed as hatchlings or sexed by characteristics as the develop....the age at which certainty is to be had depends on the experience of the person evaluating

Look for developing and reddening combs and wattles around 5-6 weeks of age.

Where are you getting them from and how old will they be?

I'm am going to get them from tractor supply and they are going to be a few days old.

I heard that with black austrulorps you can tell by the top of there heads, males have black/grey and female have black.

Unless they are straight run, they will have already been vent sexed, which is approximately 90% accurate

I'm not doing straight run....luckily.

I know even if I do "Female only" I still have a chance of a rooster.

I don't think so.
White spot on head is from crossing solid color cock over barred hen.
