It is NOT transferrable to humans.

Oh thank you for your fast response! If it was I would have had to get rid of all my chickens because we have 5 kids that handle these girls all the time.

i don't have personal knowledge with these symptoms, but i have read here on byc of symptoms similar that were attributed to internal parasites.
again i don't have experience, but i would tend to think disease if birds are collectively coming down w/symptoms. if birds are coming down w/symptions at different times something like parasites may be the culprit.
good luck with your birds.

Marek's is not like other diseases. One bird can get sick and no other birds show symptoms. It may take months, even years for another to show any signs..but, it is Marek's. It takes 8 - 12 weeks for symptoms to appear after infection so, you don't see symptoms right away. I have lost 27 birds to Marek's in the last 8 months and only once or twice have I had two birds show signs of infection at the same time. Also, there was a period of 3 months when no one was sick. It is a horrible disease, unlike any other!

Well i do not have 2 birds sick at the same time, my first girl was a few weeks ago. If i get the meds for it and vaccinate all my other birds now Will that keep them from getting it too?

There are no meds for it. There has been some success with Hypericum but I haven't experienced great success at all. Unfortunately, they have already been exposed. Some will live, some will die. I would still vaccinate and hope for the best. Bleach everything out, coop, feeders, waterers, etc. All my birds are vaccinated and since they were exposed before I knew that I had it, I have still lost many. I think it depends on the 'strain' of Marek's that hits. However, since we do not know if Marek's is what your chickens actually have, until Necropsy there is no way to tell, we will just have to go with what we know. Start with a vitamin regimen and vaccination and see what happens.

Sorry, I couldn't remember if I had posted the vitamin regimen for you or not...here it is.

400 ius of vitamin E twice daily
.5mls of poly vi sol once daily.

I also give probiotics every day and vitamins to all others in their water 2 x per week. If you have any questions, just ask.

Well after calling every farm suply around me, a few vets and hatcheries I could not find the vaccine for this Marek's crap. But finally I remembered one more suply store, actually my DH reminded me of it, so I called them and he has a supplier for it. He will call me back in a bit to let me know if they have any available and if so I will have it by morning! Although I do hope that it really is not Marek's and then my girls will just be vaccinated for it anyways. Thanks for everyones help!

Most people order it online from Jeffers Vet Supply or Twin City Poultry Supply. I am so sorry, I should have mentioned that before!
