Help Sick Chick?

Could she have been dropped? When did you tape her legs and why? What symptoms caused you to do that? It's okay if she needs it but generally, that is a treatment for splayed legs.
My thinking here is possibly a neurological condition called wry neck, It can be treated but treatment isn't always successful. I'm not saying that it is for sure wry neck but it sounds like it could be. Wry neck can be caused by a head injury, a vitamin deficiency, somehow ingesting some form of toxin, or sometimes it's genetic. The first thing that I would suggest is that you find a way to get some nutrition into her. For tonight, Since she seems to be able to swallow water, I would soak a tiny bit of her starter food in water, mostly just make the water brown, you don't want any pieces of food to remain solid or she could choke.
Oh, you said you were giving her electrolytes, what are you giving her? Something like Sav a chick? or something else made for chickens?
Hello,

Since this is my very first flock, I do not have any electrolytes made specifically for chickens, so I’ve been giving her Pedilyte and water. I just tried to mix some brewers yeast with water. We found her i the brooding area on her back this morning, we are pretty sure she fell off of the small raised area where their food is. I had to raise the food a bit because they would poop in it. I don’t live close to a pet store that has electrolytes for chickens, so I have ordered some from Amazon, along with the Nutridrench.

I taped her legs because they were splayed behind her and she couldn’t get up.

Considering your situation with no stores nearby, you did fine with the Pedialite but it's not something you would want to use often or regularly. You should not give the electrolytes and the Nutri-drench at the same time, it may overload her system. I apologize for not making that clear.

How is she this morning?

Go ahead and take the tape off of her legs, it won't help anything since her legs are out behind her, taping them is for a genetic condition called "splayed leg" or "spraddle leg" where the legs are spread apart from each other side to side. Be gentle getting it off, you don't want to hurt her legs.

It really does sound like she's had a head/neck injury especially considering the legs are not working either. If that's the case, she could go either way here. It's possible that she could live but I don't know what her quality of life would be. That would depend on the extent of the injury and how well she heals. She could make a full recovery also, we'll hope for that!

Were you able to try the brown water I suggested?

Sometimes they do poo in their food and water, sometimes bedding will get in their food and water too. I use a sectioned feeder similar to this:

it helps keep the poo out and the holes are just the right size for their tiny heads. You can buy a container (usually it's a separate purchase) that fits on the top to hold more food, it is gravity fed so you don't have refill the base so often but I don't use the container myself but it is totally your choice, it makes no difference to anything other than your convenience.

Please keep updating us on what you are doing for her and how she is, I'll keep checking back and helping as much as I can. There will probably be others chiming in as the day goes on also.

Hi, I’m sure you saw on the other thread she did not make it, 😢 They have a sectioned feeder, but it’s raised just a tiny bit, they can still reach their food from the ground, but they can “perch” it wasn’t a very big fall, just a really awkward one. 😞 I understood that the nutridrench is something the rest of the flock should have regularly, but electrolytes are good to have for an emergency? Please let me know if that is incorrect. Thank you very much for your help!

I am so sorry, I was really hoping we could do something for her. It's tough to lose them.

Usually you use Nutri-drench for birds that are sick, injured, weak, unwell in some way.
They don't necessarily need the electrolytes either (not on a regular basis) I only give those to sick birds.

If there is nothing wrong with the chicks then just plain water is fine or you can add some apple cider vinegar to their water (1/2 tsp per quart of water and change it every day) it's good for their immune system (yes, you will hear this is bunk and so will I...) but I do it anyway and it doesn't hurt them even if it doesn't do anything (It does...I can give you several examples). I've never seen a chick that doesn't like it in their water. Just make sure that you use an UNpasteurized ACV with the "mother" (Braggs brand is the best) pasteurization kills all of the good bacteria in the ACV and then you really are just giving them flavored water lol.
My perfect example is just days old...I bought some chicks from TSC this year and they all had pasty butt, I cleaned them several times a day so that it wouldn't cause a problem and when they were 4 days old, I started the ACV in their water. No joke...24 hours and not one single pasty butt in the lot of them. They are now 11 days old and growing like weeds, happy and healthy.

So to answer your question about the Nutridrench and electrolytes, if you choose to add electrolytes, make sure that they don't get diarrhea or constipation but otherwise, it likely won't hurt them. The Nutri-drench is for emergencies.

Again, I am so sorry for your loss. I wish I could have done more to help.
