HELP! Sick chicken - eyes closing (sometimes one/both), pale comb, hasn't laid eggs in a few days

Hi thank you for responding. I have been so worried about her.... yes I did get that and the terraicyin now for three days no progress... maybe it's a worm? Here is a pic of her for a better visual. I wish I could help her...does anyone know what this is ...she only has it on one eye....eating just a bit slow and not as active.

I also answered you on the other thread (https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/chick-with-eye-problem.1183049/#post-18672151)

It looks like she has pus in her eye.
Have you tried flushing the eye out with saline and seeing if the "gunk" will come out? Sometimes pus will need to be worked out of the eye using a q-tip.

I think I also see some swelling and bubbles as well? Does she have any respiratory symptoms - coughing, wheezing, sneezing?

Pus in the eye can be from infection from respiratory illness, injury (pecking) or getting some type of debris in the eye. Once the pus is removed, flush the eye a couple of times a day, apply some Vetericyn eye gel or Terramycin eye ointment to the eye. Monitor her to see if the swelling and bubbles go away.

If they eye and swelling get worse after you have flushed it and applied ointment for a few days - having a vet take a look at it would be a good idea.

Offer her some poultry vitamins in her water, see that she is drinking well.

Keep us posted.

My husband tried it's sort of hard not soft like pus...round her eye
We tried today to squeeze it out but we couldn't and her eye looks worse now.

Do I take her to a regular vet? I thought it could be a worm by its not in a tear duct its on the eye iris. If th is makes sense...thank you for your. Post

It does make sense, what you are saying. Chicken pus is a semi-hard cheese-like substance - not really liquid like we think when we hear "pus".

Some regular vets will see chickens, if you have other animals your chances are better.

Here's a few photos of eye infections - probably worse than yours, but you can see what comes out - I wish this new format let us see the galleries, but not any more so you have to scroll through each page.
