Our Betty has suddenly changed her behaviour. This morning she refused to leave the coop, we have 4 chickens and they free range all day, she is the biggest and most active of them all. She lays eggs eats and drinks well... but today she’s very lethargic my husband lifted her out of the coop she drank some water had some grapes and then went in the nesting box.. she’s still there. This is so not like her.. she hasn’t laid an egg in a few days.. have found two shell less eggs on the coop floor but not to sure which one of them laid them during the night. We are new to this only had these lovely ladies since October. Any help would be highly appreciated! Thank you!

My husband is at home and he jst said he had a cuddle with her but as soon as he put her down she went straight to the nesting box..

How old? Can you post a picture of her in her current state?

We’re not sure how old she is.. we’ve had her since October last year, she started to lay bout 2 weeks after we got her..

Poor Betty. I’m sorry. The shell less eggs really wear them out. Can you provide a calcium supplement right away? Is she eating oyster shell? I’ve crushed a human calcium plus D over scrambled egg or even a crushed Tums in raw egg yolk for an emergency calcium boost. Repeated shell less eggs are a concerned. Is anyone acting sick otherwise? The soft eggs can be caused from anumber of different things. Is an avian Vet an option?
