HELP sick chicken!!!

Good Morning,

So I noticed one of my pullets has one eye closed the other day. When she opened it it was slightly watery and had some air bubbles. Google I went and I came up with a potential URI. I tried to call my vet but of course no one was there. Fast forward to this morning, I now have 3 chickens with eyes mostly closed. I am not noticing any rattling or coughing and no runny beams or anything but my one pullet is very ill and I pulled her out of the coop this morning and brought her inside in a carrier with some bedding and food and water. I called the vets office again this morning to see if I could get a prescription for Tylan however they still haven’t called me back and on top of that I can’t find anyone who keeps it Instock. I know URI are contagious and I need to treat the whole flock but I’m not sure what to do? Vet still hasn’t come back and he doesn’t do house calls and I’m not even sure how much he does with chickens but he’s the only one I’ve found who will deal with them at all in my area. Help!!! Ideas? Suggestions? I don’t have a way to pull 3 birds so I pulled the sickest one this morning but I have a total of 16 ranging in age from 13 weeks to 1 year old

I would try to get some Tylan (tylosin) soluble powder to start in the water. It is best to treat sick birds only, but you need to do what you can since you cannot separate. Here is a link for tylosin powder, which normally requires a prescription:

Dosage is 1 tsp per gallon of water, and only add the water to the powder, not the other way around or it will not mix easily. Treat for 5 days. Mix fresh solution every 3 days.

Sickest chicken went to the vet today. Infection Coryza...whole flock going on meds...my favorite chicken may die...anyone have experience?

Coryza usually has a bad odor and thick nasal secretions plus coughing—are you seeing any of those? Did the vet test for coryza or MG? Did they start sulfa antibiotics, such as Albon or sulfadimethoxine? Or did they prescribe another antibiotic?

In answer to your previous question, the tylosin (tylan) powder should make approximately 20 gallons (1 tsp or 5 Gm per gallon of water.) Tylosin is better suited to treat MG, but can be used with sulfa antibiotics for coryza.

I’m at work, husband took her to the vet. They gave him a soluble antibiotic for the flock and also told us to add electrolytes to the water as well. Have to treat for 2 weeks. They did testing as well, just not sure what. Told me to not use the amoxicillin the other vet gave me unless a last resort however for my one that went to the vet today as she is the sickest said we could continue to treat her with the amoxicillin and also suggested we make mush and syringe feed and water her and she does not want to eat or drink....

I did notice an odor with my chicken that went to the vet today, I didn’t really know what to make of it though...
