Here we go again! The peachick that was injured yesterday is doing beautifully. However, I am very concerned about the smallest peachick (which I assume to be only around two weeks old or so). I have noticed it resting by itself often throughout the day, only moving closer to the others for safety when they are disturbed or frightened (like when I bother them, of course).
I finally took a closer look and noticed that its vent area seems to be pushed out, perhaps swollen or irritated, and it had some poo stains under its tail. Just to make sure I knew what I was looking at I examined the other peachicks, and their vents don't look like this at all. That makes me more sure that the chick could be sick and experiencing diarrhea-type symptoms. It also has a "poopy" smell that I hadn't noticed before now.
I've only had the chicks since Monday, and we've been feeding them Purina Mills Start and Grow medicated feed. That should prevent Cocciodosis, right? What type of illness could it be and how do I treat it? I just added Duramycin-10 to the drinking water for all the peachicks. I was going to isolate the tiny chick from the rest, but it got really upset so I put it back. Have I done the right things? What more can I do to get him well again???
I kinda thought this peafowl thing was gonna be a bit easier than it has been so far...
Should I rush out tomorrow morning to buy Sulmet or something else to add to the water? If so, should I stop the Duramycin when I do? Any advice is appreciated!
