Weight is about the same. He is not worse, but still not better. Vet is filling a Rx of liquid prednisone and the dewormer in the safeguard.
He thinks the steroid will help inflammation in the gut. Then he will start eating better.

Prednisone always makes me feel better! Did you discuss sending samples off for cultures and sensitivity? It's quite possible that the bacteria is resistant to the Baytril.

What is the prednisone for??????????????????????????? & How long will he have to take it? Prednisone weakens the immune system. :/

Hopefully it will cut down on the inflammation and he will start eating more. I will ask the vet about cultures tomorrow. I am working until 7am, then I will drive off to the vet to pick up the meds and start them in the morning. MAN, I really hope this works. Poor guy.

I think that prednisone is prescribed for a few gastrointestinal diseases, it should reduce swelling and stimulate his appetite (when I take it, I get ravenous!). But you're right, it does open the door for a host of new issues. If he were my bird, I would get the cultures done to make sure I was using the correct set of antibiotics, but these can be expensive, and they take time.

Glenmar, talk to your vet about the possibility of him having a secondary fungal infection as well as a bacterial infection. Kuntrygirl's and two of my necropsy reports showed fungal as well as bacterial. My first necropsy showed Candidiasis, the second Aspergillosis and Kuntrygirl's showed Candidiasis, I think.

Another thought... one of the avian vets that I saw said it would be a good idea to add ACV and Copper Sulphate to their drinking water. I didn't because I was afraid that they would stop drinking, but it might be worth looking into.
