Hi all I bought my father in law a incubator for his birthday 31st December I bought him 9 eggs Silkie chicken eggs now then seller of the eggs is shipping me the eggs be here tommorow some of eggs are 5 days others are 1 day since laid now when these eggs turn up tomorrow 23rd December what hell have I got to do to keep them viable to hatch ?
1. Option is give him eggs and incubator Christmas day and they will be between 4- 8 days and
2. Is give him eggs and incubator new years eve 31st December by which time eggs will be between 10 days and 14 days

Either way what do I need to do to these eggs in between to keep them viable help ??

I'd give them to him on Christmas and tell him it's his birthday present so you don't have to babysit them and the fertility will be better.
Try to keep the eggs in a room around 60'F and try not to bump them around. Put them in an egg carton pointy side down.

Agree, sooner is better. Read this thread for advice on hatching shipped eggs especially! Good luck and welcome to BYC.😊

Hi thanks for reply now understand pointy end down and move max 30 degrees and rotate 180 degrees every 12 hours but surely if I rotate them for 12 hours they are going to be pointy end up which is bad isn't it ?

Rotate them from side to side, do not turn them over actually.😊

  • If you're storing your fertile eggs upright in a container, you will need to twist each individual egg, making sure the pointed end remains downwards.
So what do I do rotate eggs 30" every 24 hours really need some advice eggs arrived today pointy end down help advice needed

Hi the incubator I have doesn't turn them now with egg pointy end down in incubator how much every 12 hours do I have to rotate eggs to be right I mean left to right not top to bottom I'm assuming sorry if question sounds thick

Read the thread I cited, gives you lots of information and some visuals as well, might be easier to understand. 😊
Many people hatch shipped eggs upright depending on how the air cells look. You can use a cut down egg carton. The eggs are then just tilted from side to side in the carton pointy side down.
If you choose to keep them on their sides, many people do this as well, then you just rotate them from one side to the other. Placing an X on one side of the egg and an O on the other side of the egg helps remember if you turned the eggs or not. Once they’re in the incubator, they need to be turned as often as possible, if you don’t have an automatic Turner then you should turn them at least three times a day as a minimum.

If you are storing them and have not put them in the incubator yet, they should be kept pointy side down in a carton and just tilted from side to side a few times a day until they get in the incubator. If aircells are detached then they should be handled as little as possible.😊
