Edward the Emu (approx 1 month old) is usually running around the house chirping his little head off. Until yesterday. I noticed it around 6am when I woke to start the day. He didn't respond to me while I was in the bathroom with him. I checked on him eleventy times through the day. He was the same.

He is lethargic. Hardly walking. Won't chirp. Isn't responding when I walk in the room or he walks past me. I can't tell if he ate today because I sprinkle food and he just pecks it off the floor. His poop seems fine when he did poop out in the house. When he was out in the house, he didn't run or leap or hop or fall or follow me or chase the dog to peck her nametag because it is so pretty and shiny and he thinks that the dog is his best friend... He just walked out and sat by the sliding door (which is his favorite place to sit besides on the dog bed with the pup).

Did he eat something bad while he wandered the house (I let him wander around at least twice a day)? Is he sick? Is he going to die?

I am really worried. It is 2am and here I sit writing because I am worried.

    Help!

You may get more responses in you give more information. What is Edward? How old is he? Has he been eating normally? Have you noticed anything different about his poop? Tell us as much as you can. [IMG]

Edited to add info. It's now 3am and here I sit, instead of sleeping, worried about my little guy.

Is he just running around in the house loose all the time? He could have eaten something that made him sick.

HHe lives in my giant spa bathroom. I let him out in the house about twice a day for half hour to an hour and I watch him the whole time. I mean how can you not watch with the antics of an emu!! I didn't see him eat anything. The floors are wood and I always sweep before he comes out to avoid him eating a muckball from my shoe...

It could be something he ate....... Emus hardly ever get sick, but when they do it's not good. Watch him, try giving some poultry vitamins..... is he sleepy or just not right? If you have a vet nearby you may want to take him and have them take a look. I'd say possible coccidia but he's not been with anyone..... but possible shoe to floor contamination is possible....

Oh, try giving him something soaked in olive oil or the like..... it might help him pass anything that might be binding if he ate something.. like string or etc...
