Help. Something is wrong with her.

[Mr. Frizzles Hen House]

I have an almost two year old buff orp and something is wrong with her. I gave the girls fresh water( they were almost out),and a treat of cracked corn. All the other chickens went for the corn. She went for the water and drank forever. Then she walked back out in the pen in slow motion. She has just been standing in a daze. I checked her over but can't find anything apparent except her belly felt distended a bit. I felt down the breast bone for eggbound but I'm not an expert. Her comb in bright red, almost purple and she's kindof fluffed up. Any ideas? I've lost two in the past suddenly. Both spaced out from each other. I don't know what to do. Help!

Mine did the same thing and I believe she got into some straw/hay that was in our pole shed. Gave her some bread soaked in olive oil and she pooed out a bunch of straw (at least there was a lot mixed in her poo) and is now acting MUCH better

She is now scratching and eating the grass again.

Usually if combs are bluish or purple, this indicates a lack of oxygen in the bloodstream.

I've never had any eggbound issues myself, but I don't associate drinking a lot of water with that. And I think you would want to feel around her pelvic or vent area for possible eggbinding. I would crate her to keep an eye on her, whatever it is. I do think of drinking water with trying to pass food, so I'd think more along the lines of crop issues. How's her crop look now? I'd check her first thing in the morning before she eats anything to see if her crop is small, as it should be by the time it empties. If it's still large, then I'd definitely try the olive oil thing, along with softly massaging the crop to help break things up, move things along. Keep us updated...
