Hey!

I had a black rosecomb chick hatch in the incubator a few days ago but realised she has spraddle leg.

I tried to use the elastic band trick but she’s so tiny it didn’t really work. Vet tape kept falling off so I used micropore tape in the end.

However, she’s still not putting any weight on the leg and it looks a bit bigger than the other leg.

Please please can someone advise? I don’t want her to suffer 😭

The joint does look bigger on one leg - does it feel like it has fluid in it?

You could try placing her in a chick chair for short periods of time to see if that will help. Sadly, some leg issues can be difficult to correct or depending on the cause you may not be able to correct it.
I would encourage her to eat/drink and get some B-Complex into her as well (1/4 tablet a day).

@JDChickChat Thank you so much!

@Wyorp Rock yeah, I’m not sure if it’s liquid but it does seem swollen. Do you think it’s broken it? Thanks for the chick chair suggestion. I’ve put her in one but she’s not very happy. The leg doesn’t seem to want to go down either like the other :/

I’ll probably put it out of its misery if it’s still like this as she’s not happy :(

Thank you everyone for your support!! I’ve taken her out of the chick chair for the night as I don’t think she can reach the food and water as she’s so small. She’ll go back in the chair in the morning :)
