Help - Stopped getting email subscription notifications - unsubscribing???

I just set my Subscribes to 'Don't Pause' because I was getting nothing in my email either. I then logged out and back in, and when I got to my 'Subscriptions' page all I see is this text:

"You are logged in and have navigated to the join page."

Nothing else. The rest of the page is blank..
What the heck is going on?

Kathy I just went into my subscriptions and I think I know why I was not getting any. I was still subscribed to everyone I had ever subscribed to.

so I got busy getting rid of them. Then I did as you said and reset the default and other stuff. I still do not have any but hopefully if there are new ones I will get them. Gloria Jean

I hate to say, but it seems as though the logging off / on thingy is a key - at least for me. Whenever I log on, I start getting e-mail notifications. They come through for a while, and then they stop - even though I know I *should* be getting them because I visit the thread and then check to see if I'm getting updates for new posts. When I log off and then log back on, the e-mail notifications start up again.
I'm set for 'immediate' and I had to re-check the 'don't pause' button because I was getting flooded with e-mails. Hope this helps. Sorry it's such a mystery...

I tried the log out/log in yesterday and have been flooded with notifications ever since. I woke up this morning to 44 in my inbox and nearly all were from the Washingtonian thread ( usually very busy) and one or two for my other favorite (Icelandics).

But, I am still unable to subscribe from threads I NEVER subscribed to., which I feel is very frustrating. I'm reluctant to visit any new thread for fear I will end up subscribed to yet another,

Email notices kept coming all night with "Don't pause" checked. But I got notices for each and every post, not just updated threads - so LOADS of emails. I've unchecked "Don't Pause". Will see if the emails keep coming.

The way that I understand mail subscriptions work:

- The user subscribes to a thread with immediate notifications
- The user gets sent the first notification right away
- If the user is not active on the site (logged in, clicking something) we pause notifications by default until they are active again (this is to keep them from coming back to 600 emails overnight, standard forum behavior)
- If the "don't pause" option is selected (it is OFF by default), it overrides this default and the user should get immediate notifications from all relevant subscriptions until this option is either deselected or they change their sub options. This often leads to an overwhelming amount of email in a short period of time on active threads.

So, the questions are:
  1. Are you set for receiving "immediate" subscriptions for your threads?
  2. Is the "no pause" option selected?
  3. Are you getting any email at all?

From what I know, if you have all that set, you should be getting a ton of emails. If you then uncheck the "do not pause" option, you should only get one email per subscription.

Logging in and logging out should not impact the system, but if you notice that it is, please continue to report it.
I logged off and back on again last night. This morning I had a ton of emails from here, but still nothing from the What ya got Swap, or the chat thread that goes along with it. There may be some other threads I have not received notices for, but that is always a busy thread, and one I participate in pretty frequently, so I really notice that.
So, the questions are:
  1. Are you set for receiving "immediate" subscriptions for your threads? Yes, for all of them.
  2. Is the "no pause" option selected? Yes
  3. Are you getting any email at all? Yes, as of now I am again.

Another thing I have noticed-I cannot subscribe voluntarily to any new threads-it will not even bring up the box to choose the frequency. It just ignores me every time I click "subscribe."

Well, I did the log out/log in thing yesterday and got a few emails. I did the 'no pause' thing and the 'immediate notification'. I get very few emails now. I can go to the home page and clicked my 'subscriptions' and it shows me all of my unread ones. So, if nothing else. I know that I can go to the BYC homepage and read all of the new updates.
