Help stupid duckling

Poor duck...the flies arent so bad down here yet- but I hope I dont have any more ducks sitting by the time they are in their peak numbers. Sounds like she may have broken some eggs in the nest and attracted the flies. I have been thinking about your little one.. It would be intersting to know if it hatched the right direction in the egg. I have had a few hatch with egg unabsorbed- and almost always they are the ones who are facing the wrong way in the egg. I actually had one tonight hatch that way - poor little one had no room to move and scrapped her beak badly on the shell trying to get out. I was so sad to see her come out of the egg with unabsorbed yolk. All the blood from the veins was absorbed and the shell lining was clear. She also had a distended belly. I didnt think she was going to make it but she is doing ok so far. The yolk sac got broken soon after she hatched so as soon as she comes out to go in the brooder I will put some antiseptic cream on her.

Its lovely to read you got your ducks from the RSPCA. My sister works for them in Sydney and tells me they occassionally get in a duck, goose or turkey- but they arent very common.. Congrats on the seabrights, andI hope the other ducks you have sitting do better than the first one.
