I haven’t seen any sicknesses or heard any wheezing. None of my other birds seem to have symptoms so far. There were fires in the area and lots of smoke over the last few days. Does this look like a respiratory infection or maybe a pecked eyeball? It’s swollen with little bubbles

Welcome To BYC

Swelling along with bubbles in the eye is often associated with respiratory disease like Mycoplasma.
How long have you had her? Have you added any new birds lately?

I would treat it as an eye infection - flush with saline, press out any pus/remove any debris and apply Terramycin eye ointment - do this 2-3 times a day.

It's possible since only one eye is involved, she may have suffered a peck/poke to the eye or some type of irritant is affecting it

Is she eating/drinking o.k.?

Thank you so much for responding! I incubated her out with her flock mates and she hatched on April 19th so she’s about 13 weeks old. I bought a few new 3 day old chicks 9 weeks ago and added them to my flock 3 weeks back. Today I noticed she also had a little speck of a scratch on her crow so I thought maybe it was associated with a fight gone bad? But to be safe i isolated her yesterday and completely cleaned out the entire coop, food containers, water containers, and rinsed the run out. My local(Ish) vet won’t see her until the 31st and there aren’t any other bird vets within driving distance to me. Can I get the ointment outside of a vet? Or is there any homipathic antibiotics I can use in case it is some sort of virus?

i haven’t seen her eat or drink but I’ve been busy cleaning the pen, she seems to be mad at me for taking her away from her friends. This is my first flock and I’m getting a crash course on a lot. I’m reading these blogs constantly 😅. I’m very grateful for your advise and am at the local pharmacy looking for your suggested items.

Where are you located in the world?

If you are in the US usually you can find Terramycin eye ointment at stores like Tractor Supply. It's a small tube and they may have it locked up, so ask for it. Plain Original Neosporin can also be used in the eye. Vetericyn eye gel is another option, but it is not an antibiotic ointment.

If you are in another country, then you may have a more difficult time finding those products.

Awesome I’m headed to tractor supply now! I went to Stater brothers and Rite Aid last night and they didn’t have the eye appointment. But they did have the Celine solution so I went ahead and got that! she’s eating and drinking great! Iused th saline solution last night and she seems to be getting a lot of relief from that! The bubbles have dissipated and now it’s just swelling and it looks like one white/yellow spot in her eye. I can’t tell if it’s a stye, or a piece of a weed stuck in her eyeball? Puss Or a scratch? I’m going to continue to treat it as if it’s an injury as well as being cautious that it could be bacterial/viral. I greatly appreciate your responses and your help.

Since it's changed a bit, can you post some updated photos?

You may need need to press out the white/yellow stuff.

I’m still learning this site, I couldn’t find this post! I’m hoping to be able to put her back in with her friends, she’s crying whenever I put her back in the “hospital” brooder and I feel bad haha. She pooped The largest chicken poop I’ve ever seen on me this morning, I’m not sure if it’s relative but I added a picture of that too. Maybe she was contemplated a bit? There are a few droppings in her pin and I’ve been giving her greens so I wasn’t thinking she was having any sort of stomach upset until she pooped that much 😳

Have you been cleaning the eye and applying eye ointment 2-3 times a day?

The eye still doesn't look cleared up, you may need to give her an antibiotic in addition to the cleanings to see if that helps. Do keep in mind, if it's due to respiratory illness like Mycoplasma, then she will be a carrier for life.

If she was with the others when the eye started to look bad, then whatever she has the others are already exposed.
I would at least let her with them during the day, when they are isolated they seem to get depressed.

The poop looks pretty good! LOL The older they get, the bigger the poops get.

Well. Looks like abx are sold out. You may have to get on an email or waiting list. If you have a vet that can give you a script that would be good too.
To treat symptoms of Mycoplasma, you can use Tylosin (Tylan), Tetra/Doxy/Oxy "cyclines" and Tiamulin (Denagard).

I have been cleaning her eye at least twice a day! Unfortunately our crazy laws out here in California have restricted basic typical over the counter antibiotics for sale at local stores so I’ve only had access to the Neosporin for now. I’ve used Saline, solution a pink eye spray recommended at the tractor supply as well! I ordered the ointment you suggested online from all bird products.com as well as a few antibiotics that were available at the time. I’m waiting to receive my shipment but they were definitely sold out of a lot of antibiotics! So hopefully I have some of the ones that you just named I’ll have to look over my order. I’ll send you over a photo of the items I have been using on her
