Help! Terrible coop fire, burned birds, destroyed coops. Need help in east TN! *graphic pics*

I wonder if you can ask your humane society for a bit of help....?
And maybe call a local vet..... ask them what you can buy over the counter for burns for chickens.
Did she have property insurance.....? Maybe if she's in need of cash quickly, they can help
her out.... Very sad situation.... =(

Yeah she has insurance, but they told her it would be a while for the investigator to come out and her birds need somewhere to go until they can build something new. I will tell her about the humane society, though it's such a rural area here, you can't hardly get them to pick up a stray, they are under funded and can't do much. I texted my vet tech for some suggestions, but she didn't tell me anything new, but then they don't get many birds there. Thank you for the ideas, we will try to do what we can for her.

I still think the Humane Society could provide some kind of help....hopefully...!
I hate seeing animals in pain....
How about this... try Craigslist.com in her area or largest city surrounding your area.
Maybe ask for unwanted storage units, that are moveable.... or pet carriers not wanted
anymore, or perhaps to borrow temperarily... Maybe there are people in the area that
would take a chicken or two in and care for it until your friend can get everything rebuilt...
Give them the whole story....and ask for help....maybe you get a few people who will help...?

She already has a craigslist ad out there but I will suggest that to her. It just started snowing here, I hope her birds can hang in there, she has some that came from my eggs. They are faverolles, d"uccle mixes, they should be able to handle the cold. Wish I had more room here and foster some of them. Huddle up little guys, trying to get you some help!

Your a sweet person for trying to help....
I was actually thinking maybe the cold would help for the burns.....?
I don't know.... humans I know the colder the better to help the burns
not feel so much like your on fire...!
If she is a member of a church....maybe some church members would be more
than happy to give her a helping hand.......

Gosh, this is the 3rd large coop fire in the last 5 days I have read about here on BYC. Hopefully, everyone is triple checking their electric cords, dusty outlets, and securing heat lamps. So sorry to hear about this. Wish I lived close enough to help.

I am pretty close to the tricities tn...I could take any birds that are left without housing. I have a large 18x20 ft coop with only 10 really friendly chickens that have no issue with newcomers. I am broke all the time though, so that is all I could help with. I am in Western NC and often go to tn to get things and what not...so let me know I guess.

But when there are large burns over a large part of the body it is very easy to get chilled...the cold will feel colder. Have you ever gotten really sunburnt? You end up wanting to wear a jacket in the evenings when normally you would be in shorts.

35 years ago...got burnt by a car radiator with antifreeze.... 2nd and 3rd degree burns...
and all I remember is...them constantly changing the wash rags with ice cold water for 2 days.
I'm just trying to help....but actually to far away....
you probably are correct.... =)
I honestly think a vet should step in here and help them....
Supposedly it's why they became a vet was to help animals, not to just make money.

Thank you so much everyone! Not sure about the church, but I'll ask her. Don't think she can travel much to bring you the birds, car in the shop, just got laid off and 3 girls to care for, when it rains it pours it seems. I would take them to you, but I work all the time and care for a family member with Alzheimer's, so I can't leave for long unless I have someone here to care for him. Thank you though!

Snoozel... How are thing going...? Any good news to report....?
Did the Humane society provide any help at all......?
