WE LOST!

We went before our board three times presenting documentation, petitions etc. They voted us down 4 to 2.
Village of Hales Corners, WI. My 3 birds, one of whom won a 3rd place ribbon at the Waukesha county fair must go.

bantam...sounds like you love keeping chickens as we all do. This is something that will make you crazy in the months and years to come. Talk with your significant other...this may be the time to let one of your BYC friends keep your birds for a couple of months while you sell your current place and find a small 1 or 2 acre place where you can keep as many chickens as you want.

Sounds like a crazy move but think about it...crazier things have happened!

That's terrible! I do like our system of government where each city / state can dictate their own laws (to a certain extent), but I just don't understand why some cities have such a negative view on raising chickens in your backyard.

People probably have some preconceived notion about chickens. They have no idea until they have them. They're just prejudice towards fowl!

I found this for your city here:
http://www.city.milwaukee.gov/EnvironmentalandNuis1560.htm

FARM ANIMALS IN THE CITY
The following animals are prohibited within the city either temporarily or permanently: live bees, fowl, cows, cattle, horses, sheep, swine, goats, chickens, ducks, turkeys, geese or any other domesticated livestock. Exceptions are places approved by the Commissioner of Health for slaughtering, educational purposes, research purposes and for circuses or similar recreational events.

I mean you can say they're for educational purposes or for research purposes or for "national love chickens for life" or say you're going to eat them..but not yet...or ever..
you just have to get it approved.

That just sucks royally! I agree with the others. Let somebody you can trust from BYC keep your ladies while you sell your house and find another place to live and have as many chickens as you goll darn please!!!

Get rid of the birds if only temporary. Sue the Council and the City for infringing upon your American right to Happiness. I am not joking. The birds were never reported as a problem, the inspector was being a prick. I would sue the inspector for infringing upon your rights to. Even if it goes no where, they might just throw their hands up and go well this is gona cost us X amount of money to fight it. The ACLU will fight for you for free I bet. Funnier things have happened in America. Stand up and be an American, get a lawyer and start screwing people! Isn't that the lesson we want our children to learn? It's what I am learning everytime I step into court...
