Well I think that will give it the best chance. Otherwise you will need to keep it warm. And get Baby bird formula from a pet store, as well as a feeding Syringe. Then google Feeding wild baby birds, because I believe it is somewhat hard, you have to make sure to get teh food in it's throat and not in its Windpipe. And I think you have to feed them like every 2 hours, but I'm not sure.

if its a bird the rule is normally every 15-30 min from sun up to sun down.

What redhen said, and fawns and baby rabbits and all wid creatures. Leave them alone. Although well intended many are killed in this fashion. They are wild animals.

. parents often leave the nests even up to the hatch date. sorry you had to go through this

Many birds (domestic and wild) WILL get off the nests for longer periods of time near hatching. Do NOT disturb a nest unless you have not seen activity for at least a week. Parent birds can still come and go without being noticed! Just because you don't see birds on a nest 24/7 doesn't mean they've been abandoned, even if they have cooled. LEAVE THEM ALONE!! A painful lesson, I know, but many times the painful ones are the ones we remember the most...
