I have a couple of Bronze (not broad breasted) and my Tom started doing something very strange yesterday. I went out in the morning and let my girls and Turkeys out for the morning as usual. Everyone seemed fine, in fact the Turkeys every morning run around flapping and hopping for a few minutes. I went back in the house thinking everything was fine. Just a few minutes later I went back out to feed them their breakfast and found my young Tom just standing stiff legged and hunched in the back a bit and standing perfectly still. I approached him and he slowly went down, jamming his tail feathers into the grass. There he sat motionless. I began touching him to see if he would take a nip at me like usual but he just opened his mouth in a gape, not even panting, then his third eye lid rolled over and stayed shut for several seconds. Thinking to myself, dear God he's having a seizure! I ran back into the house to grab some syringes and electrolytes, ran back out to the Tom to find him over with the Hen's eating and acting just fine. ??????
Later in the day I went out to clean up some of my son's garbage off the deck. I "fluffed" a garbage sack, my Tom did it again! Froze in position and had all the symptoms from earlier in the morning. After several minutes he comes around.
This morning same story. This time he did it in front of my Husband.
It has been hot (80's), but my property has lots of shade, access to constant cool water and places to dust. He was hatched in early Feb. He's also pushing 25-30lbs. Is this because of a heart condition? Or has he suffered a neurological catastrophe?
Any thoughts on what is going on, or what I should do for him. I know that Bronze have a fast growth rate and are meant for food, but am hoping he's not going to be a statistic. We love him dearly!
