HELP!! Twin embryos in a Blue Silkie egg

Hi to all watching my thread and all the good wishes and hints you have given me. Unfortunately I have had a family emergency (not life threatening, thank goodness) but I will have to leave "MY PRECIOUS" egg for a day or two

! Things never go as planned I guess, but I will hopefully be back in time for Sunday to help them out. I have a friend checking in on he incubator, but she has never incubated before so will only be checking temp and humidity and will call if she hears or sees any pip or peeping. I have had to put them in lock-down while I am gone. They or at least one is still moving this morning, hoping for the best, preparing for the worst when I get back. Best of luck to you Tracy for your eggs, I will check back in when I return home.

I hope everything works out for you and them, it would be so nice for you to have them.

Hate to be a wet blanket but the likelihood of twin chicks hatching out successfully is about one in a billion. They push against the shell to get out and if they even live to that stage, they'd have to push against each other, plus the air cell doesn't hold enough oxygen for both, IF they are even both turned toward it. Most likely one would be up and the other down or in a different position.

To even try to help, you'd have to have a super powered candling device to see where each one was and it's dark enough in an egg with just one chick in it, much less two, know the exact moment to help, not too soon, not too late, avoid all the veins with blood still in them, etc, etc. The video you saw was so rare, I wouldn't even try to reproduce her success. All of the above is why most don't even allow double yolked eggs to develop if they are caught early on. Of course, some do incubate accidentally, but they just don't hatch.

I think everyone knows that the odds are against them, but for at least one to make ot as far as they did is amazing. And they have a whole crowd of people holding their breath, rooting for them and hoping for a miracle. It is exciting to watch either way.
