Help! Two huge timing problems and I'm coming to lockdown

Thank y'all. I just candled them with some of kids. I think I'll set them today. 2 of them look completely ready to go. Nice air sac, and the rest of the egg is completely dark. I think something is wrong with the other 3. There's a nice dark band in the middle of the egg where the chick, but it's also clear at the bottom. Didn't see any veins, but that doesn't mean they're not there. They don't appear to match any on the candling sticky at the top of of this group. I think they might be dead, but I'm not sure why. I'll put them into lockdown too. Any thoughts on what could be wrong?

Everything and Nothing could be wrong with the ones that look funny. You're right to keep them in there. Make sure you keep them in there past day 21 if they don't hatch that day, though, just in case they are a late bloomer. I'm on day 29 with my ducklings (should have started hatching yesterday) and sometimes they just take their time....

I've lost some that I had no clue what happened as well (like my last batch where 4 didn't make it). Sometimes they just quit.

Any update? I'm curious to see how many hatched.

My ducklings finally started hatching yesterday, day 31 - now I'm thinking I messed up on the date and put them on lock down early! But so far 8/14 have hatched and the rest have pips. Guess an early lockdown really doesn't kill them....

Aww! Congrats on your ducklings!!!!!!!!!!!

I hear those are harder to hatch than chicks.

Well, I actually put my eggs into lockdown this moring. I got real sick Friday afternoon, and had to leave work early. I couldn't do it then.

I candled them before going into lockdown today. The two that looked good before still do. One of the ones I thought looked funny looked better, and the other two funny ones looked the same. No pips yet, but one might have moved (I can't remember if I put it there, or if it moved there

).

I'm a little worried b/c the temp has been reading low all moring, like 94 - 95, and my humidity is little higher than I like, around 70. I'm hoping the humidty comes down. I'm thinking the temp is off, b/c I've been measuring from the top of the eggs this whole time. But when the eggs are in the turner it raises them off the bottom, where it's warmer. I think I'm write a seperate question asking if I should do anything about the low temp. They've been at that for a few hours already. I do have a fan though, so that's suppost to keep the air even.

I'll post if we get any pips

. Congrats again!

I had the same differences with my little giant incubators. Drove me crazy. I ended up keeping my temp a little higher while turning. Hatch was a little late, but ended up fine.

Still wondering how the eggs in the classroom turned out!?!

Out of the remaining 5 duck eggs only 1 more hatched so we ended up with 9/14 this time, and, unfortunately, one of the ducklings died for no apparant reason. BUT we had 3 ducklings hatch out in the hen house under a duck and 1 more duckling hatched out last Tuesday! We turned off and cleaned out the incubator to give it a rest.

Hope it all worked out well!
