I was going to abree with AlabamaChickenLady. Jamarm02, you need to realize that being a chickeneer is a hands-on deal. If you can't commit to the responsibilities then call Orkin to help with your tick problem. Don't sentence innocent animals to a life like the one you propose.

Thank you Farmer_lew. I just think that doing this amounts to taking a couple of hamsters, in a cage, and putting them in your basement, away from all human contact for 3-4 weeks at a time and expect them to eat all bugs that may invade your home. Not gonna happen and is only damaging to the animals. Not to mention a certain about of neglect and cruelty.

I agree with you 100%

The unexpected can and does happen, despite our best efforts. When it happens, if you try to do this, the birds will pay for it with their lives, and probably suffer in the process. I know you want them badly, but it is not in their best interest to do so. Better to bring a few birds with you when you go up there, and take them with you when you go. That, or hire a reliable person to care for the birds several times a week. Really, I don't think there is a humane way to keep chickens, without any real tending, for weeks on end. Please don't try.

OK, I just re-read this-my fault, I should have paid more attention the first time.
If your only purpose for having these birds is for tick control, the chickens aren't going to provide that, neither are guineas-they can't possibly alleviate all of the ticks off of 25 acres. Try an old school remedy like Cream of Tartar tablets for your kids before they go to your property.
I hope she doesn't mind me posting this, but this was after only 4 days and she had someone tending her birds-or so she thought.
