My goodness that is the most tedious voting system I've ever seen -

First, the link seems to be broken (and yes I just clicked on the link in the first post).

It shows me 10 links to photos & voting options, and then a "submit task" button.

Nothing close to 185 items.

And think about it:

Who has the time (or desire) to click a link to view a photo, then click back to vote, then do it all over again 185 times?

What about those of us on slow internet connections or dial-up?

This means the first pics will get all the votes as people will soon tire of clicking for hours and then just give up

Not very fair.

Why not display all 185 photos as thumbnails on one page, which gives voters the option to quickly scan the choices and then select the ones they wish to vote for?

This is such an exciting adventure, please help us help you put this calendar together - after all, these are our babies in those pics!

Thanks for the feedback!

Actually, the system is way smarter than you think in the way that it allocates votes and how it presents the pics.

No rating system is perfect, but of all the ones we've tried over the past 10 years, this one is by far the best, most proficient, and most fair when dealing with over 20 items to review.

I'm sorry, but I do not see any photos at all.

All that I see are 10 links to 10 photos.

How in the world is it efficient to click 185 links one after the other on a slow internet connection?

If you're lucky enough to get to more than 10 links, as I don't see more than that.

Who is going to have patience for 2 hours for all the photos to load and then vote for each one with the same thrill?

I've been around the block a few times and have seen / participated in many photo content votings before and this is the lamest, most backwards thing I have ever seen.

I'll bet my left arm that the first photos in your "voting system" will get the majority of the votes, as people will get ticked off and tired of endless clicking - and the photos at the end of the list will barely get any views / votes at all.

Well, anyways.

Super, super disappointed forum member here.

Good luck with your calendar.

That link send me to a log in page.

edit to add: well duh, so I had to log in....

Yup, everybody does 10 at a time. It makes it manageable chunks.

How in the world is it efficient to click 185 links one after the other on a slow internet connection?

Way faster than loading 185 photos all at once

If you're lucky enough to get to more than 10 links, as I don't see more than that.

10 at a time, then the system calculates and gives you 10 that still need to be done and 10 that you have not done.

Who is going to have patience for 2 hours for all the photos to load and then vote for each one with the same thrill?

Well, so far about 24 people, and I only posted this about a couple hours ago.

Oh and it definitely doesn't take 2 hours for most people.

I've been around the block a few times and have seen / participated in many photo content votings before and this is the lamest, most backwards thing I have ever seen.

Sorry, but it is the most advanced system that we've seen for doing what we need done and has worked great for all the other cases where we've used it.

I'll bet my left arm that the first photos in your "voting system" will get the majority of the votes, as people will get ticked off and tired of endless clicking - and the photos at the end of the list will barely get any views / votes at all.

How would you like to send me your left arm? In fact, I'll match your bet and give you all of BYC if the first photos in our "voting system" get the majority of the votes.

Again, since you don't fully understand how the system works, the algorithms used to present the images, and the methodology to track the votes, etc. I don't think it is fair for you to judge how the system works. You ARE more than welcome to judge how user friendly / or unfriendly it is, but since we don't have a full programming and development team at our disposal, we try to do the best we can with the tools available, and this is the best one out there.

It sent me to a login page. I logged in. It tells you to vote but, there is no picture. When you click on for the picture, you can't get back to vote for it. l After 2-3 attempts, I quit. When the bugs are worked out (if ever) I will try again. You need photo and maybe the voting underneath the picture, so you could quickly go to the next one.

The most wonderful part of this system: It allows hundreds of people to rate a handful of pics vs. a handful of people rating hundreds of pics. It is a fantastically fair and evenly distributed system that guarantees every picture gets the EXACT same number of reviews. I haven't seen any other rating tools that can guaranteed that each item gets the exact same number of votes as all the other items.

Once the ratings are all submitted the system calculates the mean and the variance (standard deviation) of all the ratings for each image. This helps us know which images peeps think are the best and to what degree each of the voters agreed or disagreed with one another.

Reviewing the results so far, the "winning" pictures that peeps are choosing are definitely the cream of the crop!

(btw, I didn't know chickens had cream in their crops)

Ok, I got some support and was able to embed the image into the review page. Even though it will increase download time for the page, it should help reduce the amount of clicking.
