My neighbor has a d'uccle rooster that is an indoor pet. He is very sick. Purple comb that is laying over, Mucus from mouth, not eating, no energy, not crowing, has lost a lot of weight. Not sure about status of stool.. Hes been like this a few days? Any ideas what it could be and how to treat it? We do not have an Avian vet in our area. Also need some detailed information on tube feeding. Gauge of tube, how to insert, what and how much to feed.. etc. Any help greatly appreciated! This Rooster is 5 years old and my neighbor is distraught and would love to do what I can to help..

I can't post links now, but go to the top of the page, and search "go team tube feeding.". It sounds like his body is shutting down with the blue comb which sounds like heart or lung failure. Does he have symptoms of a respiratory disease with watery eyes, runny nose, any eye swelling, rattles, or cough? I would try to get some electrolytes in him right away with a dropper. SaveA Chick, pedialyte, gatorade, or homemade may work. Keep him warm tonight.
