Hi all, well my poor baby that I’m tube feeding is doing pretty good but now I have a new problem. She has developed a white cheesy looking spot on her mouth and one below her mouth. I can’t see anything in her mouth. I was reading possibly canker? She’s not on any antibiotics and is not around any other chickens. I’ve been feeding her either tube lately due to injury or by syringe. She can’t eat anything on her own. I’ve tried all different methods of feeding. Ie, deep bowl, soft mash, ect. Any help on what I could do is very much appreciated. I don’t have avian vets close by but will travel if I need to. Thank you.

Could you get a picture white cheesy spots? Canker is common, and may be seen inside and out side of the beak. Other lesions inside the beak can be wet fowl pox and yeast/fungus infection. It smells very bad. What reason or illness have you been tube feeding her?

It’s pretty hard to get a good picture of it. She only ate for two weeks then couldn’t get anything into her mouth. I consulted a vet and tried deeper dishes set at different heights. We played around with the food making it different consistencies. We finally fed her using a syringe. That worked fine and she was fat and healthy. Then a week ago, she got her beak stuck and tore off the outer shell on her beak. She also hurt her jaw. She’s always had that growth on the lower beak right on the top next to her head. Her right eye has always been a bit sunken in. Her top beak has always been thicker underneath and the right side of her beak turns to the right which makes it hard to breath out of that side. She also always looks like she has a chew of tobacco in her lip and that is what the white patches are on and one right as it’s going into her mouth. These just came up yesterday. I’m tube feeding her because when she tore her beak and hurt her jaw, she will not take any food with a syringe and started to loose weight fast. The vet said there was nothing they could do. To just keep her beak clean, put antibiotic ointment on it and keep her calm. For one day she acted like she was hurting. Now she is back to normal running everywhere in the house and playing with her cat. She has gone everywhere with me since I started feeding her at two weeks of age. She does live in the house but goes outside to get sun and bath in the dirt. We do have other chickens and turkeys but they are at the back of our acre and she never goes by them. They all appear to be healthy with no white patches on them.

Is that her jaw that is twisted?

Her face is pretty crooked. The vet said because of her severe scissor beak that her jaw dislocates. It’s done it twice. Apparently there is nothing they can do. Ensure she’s not in pain and keep her fat and happy. The vet that I took her to said it the most severe case that he’s seen that the bird is happy and healthy. Apparently they put them down when they are this bad. I don’t know but she is very loved, spoiled and has only appeared to be in pain one time.
