Hello, my turkey looks like he is dying. Today, I went in to feed everyone and he was lying on the ground with his head under his wings. I thought that he was dead, but then I noticed that he is still breathing. He did not move when I touched him. The last few days, I have noticed that he hasn't been squawking, just kind of clicking. normally he is very talkative, so I thought it was odd, but I didn't know if it was a cause for concern. then, yesterday, he lost a lot of feathers. And now today, he is lying on the ground. I don't know what to do, or if anything even can be done at this point. If anyone has any advice, please tell me. He is a big bird and I am a small girl, all alone (husband in the military). I don't even know if I can pick him up... Also, we don't have a lot of money, if I take him to a vet, how much do you think they would charge? My husband might not think it's worth it to take a turkey to the vet.... please help.

Is he a heritage breed or a broad breasted? If he's a broad breasted he might just be at the point that he's so big that his health is failing him.

Will he drink or eat anything if you offer it to him?

How old is he? Any changes in feed or coop lately? I had an otherwise healthy 6 month-old Narragnasett tom start acting listless and then die earlier this month. I wish I had noticed a little earlier, but I was out of town for a couple of days; I have no idea what happened to him. It was so sad.

I hope your guy is better today. Hopefully someone will come along that can offer you some helpful suggestions!
